How We Care

Welcome to Rosemont Cottage

Rosemont Cottage is a locally owned education and care community that offers Toowoomba families an alternative to the large childcare centres which have taken over most of the early childhood industry.

Rosemont Cottage embraces an ecological play based approach to learning, which encourages sustainability and respect for the environment. The children at Rosemont Cottage climb trees, play in the dirt, care for animals, grow vegetables, and play in the sunshine.

The carers at Rosemont Cottage encourage a natural and inclusive learning environment that supports children to be who they are meant to be – it provides an organic environment that supports creative passions and free thinking. Central to its values, is the fostering of an environment free from competition and objectification.

A natural and inclusive learning environment...

Some Praise!

“The children’s activities are such wonderful experiences. They are always projects that evolve over time and carry such beautiful messages. The way the girls set up the activities is so inviting. The children are so lucky to have you”.

“The connection between the children and the educators at Rosemont is so strong. The girls really work on building relationships with every child they care for”.

“I would absolutely recommend sending your child to Rosemont. The teachers go above and beyond every single day and it shows – my children absolutely adore them”.

“Our children have thrived at Rosemont. The quality of programs is exceptional, and the carers gentle approach to conflict resolution ensures the children always feel respected and heard”.

“I love seeing my child come home from Kindy covered in dirt, chatting excitedly about everything they have done that day. He is learning so much, about everything, I am so grateful to the girls at Rosemont”.

“My children are learning so much. By not using work sheets and other rigid resources, the children are able to learn there is no right or wrong answer – they are already learning to be enlightened thinkers”.

“I really like the way the educators don’t over manage my child. They provide great care, but they let her learn things for herself when she is ready, in her own time – such an advanced approach to learning”.

"Matilda has grown so much in your care. Her confidence and her speech has developed so much.

Last time we visited my Grandmother on the coast, she couldn't believe the difference".

"From the time my son began care at Rosemont, he has changed from a solitary child into a joyful, friendly, and verbally expressive little boy.

For me, this has been a delight of Jack's early years, and to see him become happy in the place he is now, was my dream!"

"I love the assistance and educative discussion provided to me as a parent, and as a carer. It has been a journey from strength to strength for us, and the results really shine through in Jack's personality - he is braver, more imaginative, and demonstrates mindfulness to his surroundings".

Rosemont Cottage Parents

Philosophy

At Rosemont Cottage we believe in the importance of providing an environment where children feel safe, secure and valued.

We understand that respectful and reciprocal relationships support children to ‘grow’ to their full potential and that children should feel free to explore, discover, be creative and to feel that their individuality is embraced, enhanced and encouraged.

Our beliefs are the foundation for the quality of care and education provided within Rosemont Cottages’ learning environment. We believe the key to successful learning is firstly to develop a strong sense of ‘Belonging’, which is central to who we are and what we achieve.

At Rosemont Cottage we pride ourselves in fostering an environment where children can feel comfortable, take ownership and develop their sense of autonomy and agency. Through acknowledgement and celebration of individual strengths and achievement children will develop secure and confident self-identities and build foundations for becoming successful life-long learners.

Freedom of Expression

At Rosemont Cottage we encourage freedom of expression and pride in self-identity.
Children are able to express themselves, ‘to tell their stories’ through a variety of creative mediums that include: music, painting, clay, drawing, discussion, cooking, dramatic and imaginative play, constructive play, language, and individual play preferences.

Connectedness takes its form in personal and meaningful ways and through a variety of mediums. Music is integrated through a quality music program and with the inclusion of qualified music specialists. Music and The Arts are viewed as a great stimulus for physical and emotional development.

Rosemont Cottage takes a holistic approach to its programming, favouring individual growth over competition; and environmental respect over excessive consumption of resources. It offers a high quality alternative for those families wishing to take a natural and organic approach to their child’s early education.

Natural Environment

At Rosemont Cottage we pride ourselves on our strong sense of connectedness with the environment and with the community.

Our Kindy has been used during state-wide workshops to showcase our natural environment.

Our power source is predominantly from Solar and we harvest rainwater in our three storage tanks. We are an organic setting so no sprays or chemicals are used at any time. Our use of plastics is minimal, and we recycle all our materials where possible.

We support local charities through our recycling program, and encourage the children to see the value in natural play resources. Our outdoor environment is full of lots of nooks and crannies for children to explore and rocks, trees, native grasses, and sensory gardens provide a variety of textures that help to stimulate the senses. We also have a channelled creek with running water that provides provides amazing water experiences for the children. At the far end of the Kindergarten, there are double gates that open onto beautiful Parkland. This provides a wonderful atmosphere for excursion and picnics. The Park also encourages the children to explore a range of flora and fauna.

We have two organic vegetable gardens that are rotated seasonally and several fruit trees from which the children enjoy harvesting the fruit. We have a fish pond full of native and gold fish and frogs, possums and native birds that visit on a regular basis. We all encourage visits from the children’s pets, and regularly have a range of animals visit our Kindy.

Rosemont Cottage cherishes and celebrates cultural diversity. During the enrolment process there is opportunity to discuss and document cultural and religious beliefs, rituals and customs. We will endeavour to support all families respectfully within our learning environment.
